Ce film est le portrait croisé de deux fortes personnalités du paysage afghan: deux femmes au parcours exceptionnel. L’une incarne le pouvoir démocratique naissant, l’autre le pouvoir autocratique des chefs de guerre des provinces reculées. Ensemble, elles représentent la fracture actuelle de l’Afghanistan, avec cette particularité qu’il s’agit de deux femmes au pouvoir dans un pays d’hommes. Comment se sont-elles imposées, comment exercent-elles leur autorité ? Leur façon d’exercer le pouvoir est-elle différente de celle des hommes ? Comment sont-elles perçues par les leurs, agissent-elles dans le sens d’une libéralisation de la femme ou se limitent-elles à perpétuer les inégalités ancestrales ?
“Afghanistan, the choice of women” is a crossed portrait of two strong personalities of the Afghan landscape, through the eyes and the daily life of two exceptional women: Habiba Sorabi and Aïcha Habibi.
The first one personifies the emerging democratic power; the second one personifies the autocratic power of warlords in remote provinces. Together, they personify the current split in Afghanistan with the particularity that they are not great bearded men wearing turbans, but rather two women in power in a world of men. How did they impose themselves? How do they apply their authority? Is their way of governing different from that of men? How do their people perceive them? Do they act of the liberation of women or do they just continue perpetrating ancient inequalities?
One has the title of “Wali” (governor) and the other of “commander”. One is under the authority in Kabul; the other is faithful to the Mudjahadins who fought against the Russians during the war, then against the Taliban. Yet both are respected as “The Mothers of All”. Is it in this that lies their difference as women? This is one of the many questions that the film asks, which may well find an answer in the encounter with these two women who rein over two valleys two days by car apart from each other and who ignore that the other exists.
شريط يجمع وجهين لشخصيتين قويتين في المشهد الأفغاني، امرأتان لكلّ منهما مسار استثنائي: الأولى تجسّد النظام الديمقراطيّ الصاعد، أما الأخرى فتمثّل السلطة الأوتوقراطية لقادة الحرب في الولايات المتخلّفة، ومعا تقدّمان جرح أفغانستان، بهذه الخصوصية المتمثّلة في امرأتين في السلطة في بلد الرجال. كيف استطاعتا أن تفرضا نفسيهما وكيف تمارسان سلطتهما؟ هل تختلفان في ذلك عن الرجال؟ وكيف يراهما الناس؟ هل تتحركان في اتجاه تحرير المرأة أو تكتفيان بتأبيد اللامساواة الموروثة؟
